Pan-fried Tofu with Sesame

For those recipes calls for deep-fried tofu, small tofu cubes would be great. As long as the tofu cubes are soaked by hot oil, all sides of the tofu cubes will be deep-fried to golden brown. However if pan-frying is used, tofu needs to be cut into thin slices so that we can have large area touching the pan.

Then comes to the question about whether the tofu slices should be coated or not?

The answer is both ways are ok. If no coating is used, pan-fried tofu will have a surefooted texture. While crispy taste will be gotten if coating is used. Personally I love to pan fry tofu slices directly.

Before we start the process, there are some tips to share.

After cutting the tofu slices, soak them in salted water for around 10 minutes. There are two benefits of doing this: firstly this can help to create a tender and basic salt taste. And secondly this can enhance the elasticity and thus making the slices not so easily to break.

Then heat up the pan firstly and place your palm above 10 cm over the surface of the pan. When you can feel the heat, pour the cooking oil in. And follow slide the tofu slices in. After 1 minute, turn down the fire and turn over until one side of the slices becomes golden brown.

Easy Sesame Pan-fried tofu with cumin powder.

    box of regular firm tofu
    , or extra firm tofu
  • 1
    sesame seeds
  • 1/2
    cumin powder
  • 2
  • 2
    of water
  • 1
    cooking oil
    , peanut oil
  • 1
    small bunch of coriander for decorating

  1. Cu the tofu into slices around 1 cm thickness.
  2. Soak the tofu slices in a large bowl with 2 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of salt for around 10 minutes.
  3. Heat up pan around 1 ~2 minutes until you can feel the heat. Brush oil on pan and slide tofu slices in slowly.
  4. After 1 minutes, turn down the fire to slowly Sauté until the surface of tofu turns into golden-brown. Turn over to sauté the other side to golden-brown.
  5. Layer corianders on serving plate, and place one layer of pan-fried tofu; garnish some sesame seeds and cumin powder.
  6. Repeat the process until all the tofu are pan-fried and layered.
  7. Enjoy!
